Looking at workforce planning, it is a continuous process intended to align the requirements and priorities of the business with its employment needs. While most companies look inward before and during the planning process, many do not factor external elements such as threats from new or growing employment trends.

1.      Boomerang workers and challenges for the existing employees

A boomerang employee is someone who leaves a company but returns later on. Such a decision is usually based on an opportunity, family matters or some form of compensation. Studies found that the rate of hiring boomerang employees stood 48%, but during the year 2016 it was increased to 76%.

2.   Millennials will take over managerial positions.

Most boomer leaders retire. About 3.6 million company chiefs were set to retire during 2016 as younger professionals take up the managerial slots. Companies are busy planning this transition in order to cope with the major losses of boomers. Unlike the boomers, the millennial generation of leaders are more open-minded and keener to put into practice brave, ground-shifting transformations that are more in tune with the technological trends.

3.     Rearrangement of office spaces to attract top talent

Moving on with office trends, offices will have many workers operating remotely, therefore, employers will take advantage of technology and reduce office space to minimise logistical costs. However, during this year 2016, despite this taking root, employers have spent more to offer their millennial workers a better and more hassle-free office environment.
